Treatment for Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) in Dún Laoghaire

Teeth grinding and jaw clenching, often during sleep, can cause jaw pain, headaches and worn teeth. In suitable patients, a treatment that relaxes the jaw muscle can reduce the force of clenching and ease tension.

This treatment uses a prescription-only medicine, so it can only be offered after a face-to-face consultation in which Dr Godara assesses whether it is appropriate for you.

Every aesthetic treatment starts with a consultation with Dr Godara (€100, redeemable against treatment). You are never asked to decide on the day, and every treatment includes a follow-up review at no extra cost.

Who it may suit

It may help people with jaw muscle tension, clenching-related headaches or an enlarged jaw muscle from grinding. It works alongside, not instead of, dental care: a dentist should check your teeth, and a night guard may still be recommended.

What happens at your appointment

Dr Godara will ask about your symptoms and examine your jaw muscles. If treatment is appropriate, small amounts are placed into the jaw muscle on each side. It takes about 15 minutes.

Results and how long they last

Effects build over one to two weeks and usually last around three to four months. Over time, the jaw may also look slightly slimmer.

Possible side effects

  • Tenderness or bruising where the needle went in
  • Temporary tiredness when chewing tough food
  • Rarely, a temporary change in the smile

Common questions

Do I still need to see my dentist?
Yes. Grinding can damage teeth, so regular dental checks are still important.
