Treatment for Excessive Underarm Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) in Dún Laoghaire
Hyperhidrosis means sweating much more than the body needs, which can affect confidence and daily life. When strong antiperspirants have not helped, a treatment that reduces the activity of the sweat glands in the underarms may be an option for suitable patients.
This treatment uses a prescription-only medicine, so it can only be offered after a face-to-face consultation in which Dr Godara assesses whether it is appropriate for you.
Every aesthetic treatment starts with a consultation with Dr Godara (€100, redeemable against treatment). You are never asked to decide on the day, and every treatment includes a follow-up review at no extra cost.
Assessment first
Excessive sweating can occasionally be caused by another condition, a medicine or menopause itself. Dr Godara will ask about your symptoms and health to make sure the right cause is treated. Menopause-related sweating is often better treated as part of menopause care.
What happens at your appointment
The treatment is for the underarms. Many tiny injections are placed just under the skin across the sweating area of each underarm. It takes about 30 minutes.
Results and how long they last
Sweating usually reduces within one to two weeks. The effect typically lasts several months, often around four to six months or longer.
Possible side effects
- Tenderness, redness or bruising where the needles went in
- Occasionally, more sweating in other areas of the body

Common questions
- Is it safe to stop sweating in one area?
- Yes. The underarms produce only a small share of the body's sweat, so the body can still cool itself normally.
Treatment suitability is assessed individually. Results vary from person to person. This information is general guidance and does not replace an individual medical consultation.
