Menopause Clinic in Dún Laoghaire

VERA MD is a doctor-led menopause clinic at Escapada, 10-11 Marine Terrace, Dún Laoghaire. Consultations are with Dr Aastha Godara, a GP on the specialist register, and give you the time to talk through your symptoms properly.

Whether you are in perimenopause, menopause or later, and whether or not you are considering HRT, your care is planned around you.

Who the clinic is for

  • Women with symptoms they think may be perimenopause or menopause
  • Women who want to discuss whether HRT is right for them
  • Women already on HRT whose symptoms are not well controlled
  • Women with early menopause, or menopause after surgery

Symptoms we can help with

  • Hot flushes and night sweats
  • Irregular or changing periods
  • Poor sleep, tiredness and low energy
  • Low mood, anxiety and irritability
  • Brain fog and difficulty concentrating
  • Joint and muscle aches
  • Vaginal dryness, discomfort and urinary symptoms
  • Reduced libido

What happens at your first consultation

Your initial consultation lasts 30 minutes. Dr Godara will ask about your symptoms, periods, medical and family history, and what matters most to you. If you are over 45 with typical symptoms, blood tests are usually not needed to diagnose perimenopause or menopause.

You will then talk through your options, which may include HRT, non-hormonal treatments and lifestyle measures. Nothing is started unless you are comfortable with it. With your permission, we will write to your GP so your records stay up to date.

Protecting your heart and bones

The menopause transition is an important time for prevention. During and after the transition, a woman's risk of heart attack and stroke increases, so your consultation includes an assessment of your cardiovascular risk.

Bone mineral density also declines significantly after menopause, which may lead to fractures. A detailed discussion of your individual risk forms an important part of your consultation.

Follow-up care

If you start a new treatment, a follow-up about three months later checks how it is working and whether any changes are needed. After that, most women are reviewed once a year. Existing VERA MD patients who are settled on HRT can request an HRT repeat prescription by email to care@veramd.ie. The repeat prescription charge is €50.

Free HRT and your consultation

If you have a medical card or Drugs Payment Scheme card, the HRT itself may be free at participating pharmacies. The consultation is not covered by the scheme. Read more in Free HRT in Ireland.
