HRT Consultations in Dún Laoghaire
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the most effective treatment for many menopause symptoms, but it is not right for everyone. At VERA MD, Dr Godara helps you weigh up the benefits and risks for you, and prescribes HRT where it is appropriate.
How an HRT consultation works
HRT is discussed as part of your initial menopause consultation. Dr Godara will review your symptoms, medical and family history, blood pressure and any medicines you take, and explain the options that suit you.
HRT comes in different forms, including patches, gels, sprays and tablets, and vaginal treatments for local symptoms. If you have a womb, a second hormone is usually needed to protect its lining. The right combination depends on your health and preferences.
Benefits and risks
For many women HRT relieves hot flushes, night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes and vaginal symptoms, and it helps protect bones. Like any medicine it has risks. Depending on the type of HRT and your own health, these can include a small change in the risk of breast cancer or blood clots. Dr Godara will explain what the evidence means for you, so you can make an informed choice.

Reviews and repeat prescriptions
If you start HRT, a follow-up about three months later checks how it is working and whether the dose or type needs adjusting. After that, most women are reviewed once a year.
Existing VERA MD patients who are settled on HRT can request a repeat prescription by email to care@veramd.ie. The repeat prescription charge is €50. Dr Godara checks that your current treatment still suits you before prescribing it again. Please don't include other medical details in your email.
If you already take HRT
If you are on HRT from another doctor but your symptoms are not well controlled, or you have side effects, you are welcome to book an initial consultation to review your treatment.

- Can you prescribe HRT?
- Yes. Dr Godara is a GP on the specialist register and can prescribe HRT where it is appropriate for you.
- Is HRT free in Ireland?
- Since 1 June 2025, HRT products are free at participating pharmacies for medical card and Drugs Payment Scheme holders. Consultations are not covered.
- Can I have an HRT repeat prescription if I am not a VERA MD patient?
- Repeat prescriptions are for existing VERA MD patients. If you are new to the clinic, please book an initial menopause consultation first.
