PRP for Hair Shedding in Dún Laoghaire

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is made from a small sample of your own blood, prepared to concentrate the platelets, and injected into the scalp. It may help reduce hair shedding and support hair density in some people.

Every aesthetic treatment starts with a consultation with Dr Godara (€100, redeemable against treatment). You are never asked to decide on the day, and every treatment includes a follow-up review at no extra cost.

Finding the cause first

Hair shedding has many causes, including hormonal change around menopause, thyroid problems, low iron, stress and some medicines. Dr Godara will look for underlying causes first, as treating them may be more effective than PRP alone.

Who it may suit

PRP is most often used for gradual thinning or shedding. The evidence is still developing and results vary between people, so it is not suitable for everyone, and it cannot restore hair where follicles have been lost.

What happens at your appointment

A blood sample is taken from your arm and prepared in the clinic. The plasma is then injected into the thinning areas of the scalp. The appointment takes about an hour. A course is usually three sessions about four weeks apart.

Possible side effects

  • Scalp tenderness, redness or mild swelling for a day or two
  • Bruising where the blood was taken
  • Rarely, infection

When it may not be suitable

PRP is not offered if you have certain blood or platelet disorders, take blood-thinning medicines, have an active scalp infection, or are pregnant.
